Registry: Device Environments

Within an organization, hardware and software assets can have specific purposes and uses that may not be in a production environment. For devices that have software installed that would be only used for QA as an example, liability for this software would not necessarily need to be counted toward the production license count. Asset Vision can help differentiate these assets using Device Environments.

While the attribute of Device Environment can be used throughout all of the reporting areas in Asset Vision, its primary purpose is to provide for additional License Management features that help with defining the liability of software and hardware related to the device.

Device Environment Config

Asset Vision ships with five out-of-the-box Device Environments already defined:

  • Production: Devices that are used in a production role.
  • Test: Devices that are used in QA or Development.
  • Development: Devices that are used primarily for Development.
  • Training: Devices used for training inside the organization.
  • Disaster Recovery: Devices used primarily in a DR role.

The existing Environments can be modified, or new environments can be added to suit.
