How to Move a PAD

This lesson explains the steps needed to move a PAD from one host to another. Moving a PAD requires the user to:

  1. Install a new PAD.
  2. Move jobs to the new PAD.
  3. Uninstall old PAD.
  4. Delete old PAD.

Common errors are located at the end of the lesson.

Note: If you decide to move a PAD then you will have to update the credentials as well.

1. Install a New PAD

Note: Complete this step from new PAD host

  1. Navigate to Setup > Discovery Setup > PAD > PAD Install.
  2. Click Download and install to download the PAD installer. Follow the PAD installer directions to install the PAD onto the machine. Installing a PAD is covered in the lesson, PAD Installation.

  1. Navigate to Setup > Discovery Setup > PAD > PAD Status.
  2. Verify that the PAD Status of the new PAD is Connected. You may have to wait a few minutes before the status is updated.

Find Jobs to Move

  1. Navigate to Setup > Discovery Setup > Scan Jobs > Manage and find the PAD to be moved/retired.
  2. Click the plus button next to the PAD host name to expand the list of scan jobs.

For each job on that PAD, click the pencil icon to edit the job, and then:

  1. Navigate through the wizard until you reach the Review and Implement step.
  2. Select new PAD Host from the drop down menu.
  3. Click Save and Finish.

Once all jobs are moved to the new host, you should not see the old host. All of the jobs should be on the new host.

3. Updating Credentials

If the user moves the PAD then they will also have to update the Parent PAD field in the credentials record.

  1. Navigate to Setup > Discovery Setup > Credentials > Manage and click the edit icon next to the credentials record that needs to be edited.
  2. Choose the new Parent PAD from the drop down list and Save.

  1. Navigate to Setup >Discovery Setup > PAD > PAD Status and find the old PAD record.
  2. To delete the PAD, right-click the record and select Uninstall.

Note: The PAD may take a few minutes to complete the uninstall process.

Once the PAD is fully uninstalled, the status will be Disconnected.

Now that the PAD is uninstalled, you can delete the PAD record.

  1. Right-click the entry and select Delete.

Note: Deleting a PAD may take time as the system works to delete dependencies. If this occurs, there will be a processing icon next to the left of the server time.

The deleted PAD should no longer show in the list.

Resolve by uninstalling PAD first.
