How to Enroll an Android Device
This lesson explains how to enroll an Android device within Asset Vision® Client Manager.
Add a User that Will be Enrolling the Device
In order to enroll a device in Asset Vision Client Manager, the user of the device must exist in Asset Vision, and be enabled for Enrollment. This user would be related to a Google account that is registered with one or more Android devices. Users discovered by Asset Vision will already appear in Population, and can be designated as Enrollment Enabled. If there is no user discovered, a new user can be added below.
Navigate to Client Manager > Users, expand Users, then click on Population. From here you will need to add the users who are enable to enroll devices.
There are two ways to add users:
- Add an individual user manually.
- Import a list of users with their extended information.
Please refer to the lesson on the Basics of Importing if you need more information regarding importing a list of users.
To continue adding an individual user manually, click New, and in the pop-up dialog, select User, and click OK.
Complete the User Information
- Add the user's first and last name.
- Add the an email address. This must be an email address that is accessible on the device either through a standard email client of via a web mail system.
- Add the mobile phone, business phone, Department, and/or Company Branch of the user if desired.
- If the user already has an existing User ID in Asset Vision, it can be added here.
- If the user is already associated with a user that has a VPP account, it is shown here.
Enable the user(s) for Enrollment
- Select the user or users you want to start enrollment for.
- Right-click and select Start Enrollment, or check the checkbox next to the desired user(s) and click the Start Enrollment button.
- Select when you want enrollment to expire for this user or group of users.
- Enter the number of different devices this user is enabled to enroll.
- Optionally check Send email with instructions to user to send an email to the enrolled user for notification and additional instructions assisting with device enrollment.
- Finally press Enroll to start the enrollment process.
Start the Enrollment Process on the Device
Enrollment occurs on all Android devices where the enrollment-enabled user is registered. Enrollment is a wizard-prompted process that will need to be carried out by the user of each device.
- On the device or devices where the user is registered, there will be a notification, most likely in the task bar section, informing the user of an Account Action Required. Clicking on this notifiction will open the Policy Controller setup screen.
- In the Policy Controller setup screen, select Set up managed profile if it is not the only option, and click Next.
- An Authorizing... popup will appear shortly, and will lead to the Set up work profile screen. The Scalable Software Policy Controller app will show up. Click Next when ready.
- A popup will appear informing the user of permissions changes that will occur on the device. Click OK to continue.
Complete the Enrollment Process on the Device
The profile installation process will now begin.
- The device will display the Setting up your work profile... screen as it completes the installation.
- An Enrollment screen will appear, with an option to enroll. This step should continue automatically, and a Requesting token... popup will appear. If it does not, click ENROLL to complete the enrollment process.
- When the enrollment is completed, the Setup Finished screen will display, showing the Policy Controller as installed. Click Finish to dismiss the screen. The enrollment is now complete.
Verification of Successful Enrollment
Once a device is enrolled, there are many different ways to confirm the enrollment success.
Verify on Device
- On the enrolled device, open the Apps Drawer, typically by clicking on the App Drawer icon.
- In the Apps Drawer, in the Search Apps... section at the top, type Policy Controller. Only the Policy Controller should now show.
