How to Reset the PAD Configuration File

If you encounter problems with your PAD and contact Scalable support you may be asked to reset the PAD configuration file.  This lesson will walk you through this process.

Navigate to PAD Server Configuration Files

Navigate to: Local Disk (C:) > Program Files > Scalable Software > PAD Server > configuration > live.xml

Open the file with any text editor.

Open live.xml File

The live.xml file should have contents that look similar to those below.  If your configuration file was corrupted it may be blank.

live.xml FIle is Blank

If you open the live.xml file and find that it contains no data or looks very different from the text in the above step.

  1. Then you should rename the file as live.xml.corrupt.
  2. If you get a pop-up window warning you about changing the file name extension click Yes to continue.

Open other live.xml.# files and find one that is not blank

Go down the list of the other live.xml.# files and find one that is not blank.

  1. If you get a pop-up window that the file cannot be opened, then choose Select a program from a list of installed programs
  2. Click OK to continue.

Open using Notepad

  1. Select Notepad from the list of programs.
  2. Click OK to continue.

If File is NOT blank then rename it live.xml

If File is NOT blank then rename it live.xml

If you the file you open has content then rename the file as live.xml and click Yes to continue when you get the pop-up warning about changing a file name extension.
