Status Manager Overview

Status Manager is a semi-automated process for maintaining the status of a device and tracking its lifecycle. Since Status Manager is a platform feature, it is available to all Asset Vision admin users. Status Manager will ensure that a default status exists for all devices as well as update that status based on manually entered 'overrides' and Asset Vision discovery data from the PAD and (if available) Optimize agents.

Status Manager is an offline process that can be submitted through the Asset Vision UI, but can also be enabled to run daily.

Some examples of the many uses for Status Manager:

  • Review device status and single out non-responsive devices that can be rescanned or excluded from the environment to save resources.
  • Configure Status Manager settings to determine the timeline of the lifecycle of a device, including when a device should enter Pending and Final status based on the last successful scan date.
  • Mark devices as disposed to confirm the non-operational status of a device regardless of scan data.

Each modification to the status of a device can easily be viewed from the Change Log.

Status Manager Menu Overview

Status Manager Menu Overview

Status manager is located under Setup > App Administration > Registry and is composed of the Status Data and Execute menu items:

  • Status Data: Review the status of a device. Review the full list of available statuses, current device data in the inventory, and a log of status changes. Enter a manual override status for a device that will either act as permanent or have an expiration date.
  • Execute: Configure and execute the Status Manager offline process and review the results of recent executions. Automatically set device status based on configurable parameters including days since last successful scan.

Status changes can be applied automatically or manually through an override.

Device records are grouped by Status automatically. To view all devices ungrouped, click the drop down arrow on one of the field names and uncheck Show in Groups.

Change Log

Change Log

When the status for a device is changed by the Status Manager, a log record is added. This record includes the date that the change occurred as well as the source of the data that influenced the change.

Overrides

Overrides

Overrides are the highest priority data source for determining a new status for a device.  If an override exists for a device, it will be used and all other data sources will be ignored until it expires or is deleted from the system.  If there happen to be multiple overrides for a single device, only the most recent override will be processed, all others will be ignored.

After processing the overrides, the Status Manager will use Asset Vision discovery and device data to determine if any automatic status changes should be made.

Execute

Execute

Usually, the user will not need to submit the job manually, however if needed, the job can be found under Execute.

The user can configure the Status Manager to help set a default status as well as update the status based on discovery data.

Status Manager Configuration Form

The most important inputs for the user to manage are the status values (Default, Success, Pending, Final, and Disposed) and the day fields (Days Since Success, Days Since Pending). The following list describes each of the parameters:

  • Enable Status Manager: Enable the Status Manager to run daily.
  • Default Status: Status for devices that do not have a status.  This status will be used only if no other status can be determined.
  • Success Status: Status for a device that was previously marked as Pending or Final, but has been successfully scanned within the Days Since Success.
  • Pending Status: Status for a device that has not been scanned in Days Since Success.
  • Final Status: Status for a device that has been in Pending Status for Days Since Pending.
  • Disposed Status: Status for a device that is Disposed.
  • Days Since Success: Days since successful scan from Asset Vision PAD.
  • Days Since Pending: Days since status changed to Pending Status.
