Depending on how a software license is purchased, SAM analysts need to determine the best way to assess liability for that software when it is discovered in the inventory. For traditional desktop applications, liability of the product may or may not be associated with the most recent version released. For server applications, there could be multiple license metrics as well as different rules that could be applied to a single instance of software. Asset Vision now allows SAM analysts to choose which license rules to use when assessing software license liability, which will provide an accurate review of what all needs to be licensed.
