Services Overview

Asset Vision collects detailed information regarding installed, detected and running services on devices within the organization. Discovered information includes information regarding databases, hypervisors, clusters, terminal server and Citrix XenApp servcies, and other Windows roles and generic services detected by our Dependency Mapping capability.

Services Overview

All of the different service categories are grouped together in different menu items:

  • Databases: Contains detailed analyses of Oracle and SQL Server environment.
  • Hypervisors: Provides a detailed service view of virtualization environments, including host, guest, and related mappings.
  • Clusters: Report on cluster service nodes for Windows, VMWare, and other server technologies.
  • Terminal Services: Contains reports on Microsoft RDS services and related licensing.
  • Windows Server Roles: Report on discovered, installed Microsoft Server Roles and Features
  • XenApp Services: Shows discovered Citrix XenApp servers, licensed applications and features, and Citrix users.
  • Other Services: Includes information detected by our generic services probe.

Databases

Databases

The Databases menu items provides the following information:

  • Database Inventory Summary: An overall count of physical and virtual machines with detected database service instances.
  • Oracle DB: Contains in-depth Oracle instance information, including detected TNS listeners and Oracle Server Worksheet summary information. The Oracle estate can also be optimized between physical and virtual devices.
  • SQL Server: Provides detailed SQL Database instance information, and optimization reporting to help with load-balancing decisions.

Hypervisors

Hypervisors

The Hypervisor menu items provide the following information:

  • Hypervisors: An overall list of discovered and inventoried hypervisors.
  • Management Servers: Detected servers used for management of the virtual infrastructure.
  • ESX Migration History: Displays collected VMWare ESX VM Guest migration history information, including physical and virtual host details.

Clusters

Clusters

The Clusters menu items provide the following information:

  • Clusters: Displays a list of discovered Windows and VMWare clusters with Cluster Type and Licensable Services. 
  • Cluster Nodes: Displays the discovered servers detected as being nodes of a cluster. Includes reference to cluster ownership.

Terminal Services

Terminal Services

The Terminal Services menu items provide the following information:

  • Terminal Services: Displays discovered instances of a terminal services running on servers. Additionally workstations, running remote access to a terminal service can be identified as long as the terminal service is running on a machine which has the Asset Vision agent installed.
  • Virtual Desktop: Displays desktop opertating systems running virtualized on server operation systems.
  • Remote Desktop: Displays discovered instances of workstations running the Remote Desktop Service.
  • Allocated TS CALs: Allocated Terminal Service Device and User CALs can be seen here. This information is extracted from the Terminal Services licensing service and is used by the licensable inventory routines to calculate CAL usage for terminal services.

Windows Server Roles

Windows Server Roles

The Windows Server Roles menu items provide the following information:

Windows Server Summary: A list of servers with a summary of Services and Roles installed. Clicking on the numerical value in the Active Services or Server Roles sections will display a list of the Role and Services for the specific server.

XenApp Services

XenApp Services

The XenApp Services menu items provide the following information:

  • Servers: Lists discovered XenApp servers in the environment.
  • Applications: Displays a list of XenApp-hosted applications grouped by the hosting server.
  • Services: Displays information related to the specific services that are running at time of the XenApp scan.
  • Licensed Features: Shows what XenApp features are licensed and available per XenApp server.
  • Application Users: Provides a list of XenApp Service users, grouped by Application Assigned,.

Other Services

Other Services

The Other Services menu items provide the following information:

  • Generic Services: Contains information of all other discovered services as defined in System Configuration in your environment.
  • Management Platforms: Displays the count of other service types in the environment by platform, as well as the last contact date, and location of the associated devices.
