NEW for March 2019

Agentless Utilization Sampling

In response to customer feedback and market need, we have implemented a new capability to collect CPU, RAM, disk and even process resource utilization from specified devices. This adds an increased amount of intelligence to the existing Asset Vision inventory and provides an insight into how server resources are being utilized.  Presented with this data, you have an understanding of which devices are overused, underutilized, or even idle. The benefits this data can provide are numerous, but one of the most pertinent uses would be determining what resources are required when planning a transformation of your data center assets. Whether retiring hardware, moving physical to virtual, or moving entire systems to the cloud, this is incredibly valuable. Cloud Migration Wizard

In our last release, we added new probes to directly collect key associated data on your infrastructure via the Azure and AWS support APIs. This gave you the ability to enrich your records of server hardware and software inventory with details of leased instances, reservation details, charging models and more.  In order to make the most of this valuable data, we have now provided capabilities that can help determine equivalent cloud products (and related costs) that might be required to move an asset to a specific provider. The wizard wraps this complicated process in a simple to use format, allowing you to select specific assets from your inventory, choose which cloud provider you wish to query (optionally including the intelligence gained from the above performance sampling) before analyzing and processing the results for you. This “Migration Hub” also provides you with an overview of your cloud projects and, as you purchase resources from your provider and perform an inventory, you can then link the old and new assets together in the database thereby providing a full end-to-end audit trail. If you’d like to see more, here is a short video:  Introducing the Cloud Migration Wizard, or see the Cloud Migration lesson in Help.

This feature is currently enabled by request for customers using Asset Vision Server capabilities.  Please reach out to your Scalable representative if you are interested.

Citrix XenApp Inventory – Latest LTSR Version Supported

As part of our ongoing drive to support the latest versions of hardware, software and operating systems, this iteration turns the spotlight to the latest releases of XenApp server. In release 7.15, Citrix changed their interface such that we were required to make enhancements to the query method used by Asset Vision to retrieve the rich inventory data our customers rely on.

Normalization Enhancements – Chaklun® Architecture Change

An often hidden cornerstone of Asset Vision’s inventory capability lies in our normalization tool, namely Chaklun®. This iteration includes some changes to the normalization mechanics and processes to improve the efficiency of software resolution, enhancing synchronization, and laying the foundation for the next wave of normalization enhancements planned for the future.
