Two-Factor Authentication
Asset Vision allows Two-Factor Authentication for user logins for additional security. Two-factor authentication is enabled per instance which means that enabling the feature on an Asset Vision instance will enable the feature on all user accounts on that instance. When enabled, two-factor authentication is required for enrollment for every user on the instance.
This feature is a system option and needs to be enabled by Scalable Software. Please contact Support to have this feature enabled or disabled.
Download the Authentication App and Barcode Scanner App
On an Asset Vision instance that has two-factor authentication enabled, when you first log in you will be taken to a screen where you will have to configure your two-factor authentication.
- You can use the links provided to download an authenticator application for your smart phone or Chrome browser.
In this example, Google Authenticator is used.
View the Code Generated by the Authentication Application
- In the authentication application a 6-digit code will be generated. This is the code that you will need to enter into Asset Vision after you enter your Username and Password.
- There should be a timer that counts down time until the code is expired. If the code expires before you have a chance to enter it, then you must disregard the expired code and use the new code that is generated.
Enter the Generated Code into Asset Vision
- If you are having issues scanning the barcode, or if you do not want to download a barcode scanning application then you can click the Having problems with image? link and a code will appear that you can enter into the authentication application to finish your configuration.
- Once you configure your authentication then you will need to enter the 6-digit verification code generated by the application.
- Clicking OK will allow you to proceed to Asset Vision.
User Scans
- If you wait too long then the key generated by the authentication application will be considered expired and this error message will be shown. You will have to ensure that you enter the generated key before it expires. If you enter the wrong code during the setup of your two-factor authentication then you will have to redo your setup, meaning you will have to rescan the barcode and enter the correct generated code.
Suspending or Reactivating a User's Two-Factor Authentication
If you're an admin then you can suspend two-factor authentication for 24 hours if you need to. To do this:
- Navigate to Admin > User Management > Scalable Live Users.
- Notice that under the Two-Factor Authentication column there is a value of Activated or Activated (Suspended). Click into this field to modify a user's two-factor authentication setting.
- Click Suspend to suspend the two-factor authentication for that user. This means that, for 24 hours, when the user logs into Asset Vision then they will not be prompted to enter the 6-digit security code.
- If a user was suspended and needs to have two-factor authentication reactivated before their suspension is finished then the admin can click Reactivate.
