How to Set Up the Safari Extension for Web App Usage Tracking
The Survey Client (Agent) is now able to track URL information in the Safari web browser for Windows by using a Safari extension. This extension is an add-on that is available from Scalable Software and is enabled manually on the local machine from where the web usage is to be configured. This lesson serves as a guide to help enable this extension.
Requirements
The following requirements must be met in order for the extension to function properly:
- Required files available on the Asset Vision instance from the Download Optimize Client page.
- Local Administrative rights on the client machine.
1. Download Required Safari Plugin Files
Download the extension in preparation for subsequent installation steps. Download Extension from the Download Optimize Client within the Asset Vision interface (Setup > Agents > Deployment > Agent Download: Download Safari extension for tracking Web Applications in Safari. 2. Install the Plugin
- Open Safari Browser.
- In the top menu, click Safari, then Preferences.
- Click on the Extentions tab.
- In the Finder, open to the location to where the scalable_software_safari_extension_1.0.safariextz extension file was downloaded.
- Drag the extension file onto the Safari Extensions Preferences window.
- On the "Are you sure you want to install the extension..." dialog, click the Trust button. This will install the extension.
3. Installation Verification
In the main Safari browser window after the extension has installed, it will appear in the Extensions tab.
NOTE: Safari may need to be restarted in order for the extension to begin tracking web app or Web URL information.
