How to Configure Agent Connectivity

Agent Connectivity is configured according to default settings so it is not necessary to make any changes unless you want to change the default agent configuration for your environment.

Optimize Agent Configuration General Settings

Optimize Agent Configuration General Settings

Navigate to: Setup > Agents > Deployment > Agent Configuration.

Configuration General Settings:

  • Discard Data Over: Agent will delete any data that it is unable to transmit to server within this many days.
  • Start Data Transmission Window At: Agent Transmission window opens at this time every day.
  • End Data Transmission Window At: Agent Transmission window closes at this time every day.
  • Retry Transmission Every: If transmission fails, agent will wait this many seconds before every next retry.
  • Stop Retrying Transmission At: Agent will stop retrying transmission after this time is reached.
  • Full Rescan Interval: Usually agent transmits data to server every day incrementally. This option specifies time interval in days at which agent will perform full Software Inventory and Extended Data Collection rescan.
  • Allow Stopping Agent Service: Allow stopping agent Windows NT service on Windows-based client computers.
  • Agent Manager Interface: Enables/disables access to agent using TCP/IP port 3500.
  • Ignore CRL Errors: Ignore any HTTPS certificate revocation check error if the agent cannot connect to a certificate revocation check server.

A Note About CRL Errors

In setting up an HTTPS connection with the AV Server, the Agent attempts to check that the digital certificate presented by the AV Server has not been revoked, by contacting the Certificate Issuing Authority. This is standard HTTPS connection setup protocol.

To do this the Agent does not contact the Certificate Issuing Authority directly, but requests a Certificate Revocation check through the host OS which makes the check.

Should the local network not allow this check to succeed, then the host OS will report a Certificate Revocation Check failure to the Agent, and the Agent will not connect to the AV Server.

While it is preferable to allow the host OS to contact the Certificate Issuing Authority, in situations where it is not possible then the Agent can be configured to ignore the Certificate Revocation Check failure message from the host OS, and establish contact with the AV Server anyway.

If the "Ignore CRL Errors" check box is checked, then the Agent will be configured to ignore the error and make the connection. The default setting for this is unchecked.

This setting does alter the downloadable Agent installer configuration, otherwise the Agent would not be able to connect to the Server.
