How to View Virtual Software Usage
The Optimize Reports in this section focus on the software products that are used from a different computer than the one they are installed on. These reports focus primarily on usage by user as determined by keystrokes and minutes in use. Reports can be created on user-defined products and computers.
Virtual Overview
Clicking on the Virtual menu item container renders a dashboard that contains two widgets:
- Top Normalized Products by Minutes in Use: Top normalized software products in Asset Vision that show the most usage ordered by total minutes in use.
- Top Programs by Minutes in Use: List of programs ordered by total minutes in use.
Distinct Users
Unique number of virtual desktop application users per hour for each software product version. Filter by relative date range, usage threshold, keystroke threshold, and software product. This data view displays the unique number of users for versions of virtualized software products.
Users by the Hour
Clicking this menu item will display a page of instructions for constructing a Virtual Software Usage report.
Filter Products
List of known software products. Filters can be saved on this view and used to constrain the products considered by the User By Hour report.
Filter Computers
List of known computers from inventory. Filters can be saved on this view and used to constrain the computers considered by the User by Hour report.
Submit Calculation
The Virtual Desktop sub-menu item allows you to run calculations that will determine thin client usage for software and computers within a certain date range.
For the given date range, this calculation will analyze thin client usage to determine the number of users on an hourly basis.
Pressing Start Calculation will execute an offline process. You should receive pop-up messages indicating that the process has started and finished. Once complete, you can browse the results buy clicking View Report in the left navigation menu.
Results of this calculation can be verified by browsing the Raw Data to analyze Virtual Daily Usage data.
The view report data view shows the user counts for every hour of the day per software product version. The data that populates this report results from User by Hour calculation.
