Working with Licensable Inventory
This lesson contains information on the Licensable Inventory menu. From this menu you can view licensable inventory for tagged and untagged software and view details of license metric counts for all licensable software to get a picture of exactly how many license have been consumed.
Licensable Inventory Dashboard
The dashboard at Registry > Discovered Software > Licensable Inventory is a pivot chart, grouped by license metric, that contains information about licensable software in the environment, wth liability counts for relevant license metrics such as:
- OSE (Operating System Environment)
- Processor
- Seat
- Server
From this view, you can see the main Licensed Product (1), or expand the product to see the individual Licensed Product Version (2). By clicking the License Count links (3), you can drilldown to get liability details.
The subsequent menu items break down the relevant liability information into logical groups, viewing the information based on:
- Workstation OS
- Server OS
- Installed Software
- Services
- User Licenses
Any liability issues are pointed out here as well, spotlighting any areas of concern based on:
- Device Liability
- User Liability
- Missing Expense Data
Workstation OS
The Workstation OS report provides a view of the owned licenses, and associated liability of workstation-based OS types within the environment.
Server OS
The Server OS report provides a view of the owned licenses, and associated liability of server-based OS types within the environment.
Installed Software
The Installed Software report provides a view of the owned licenses, and associated liability for all detected, installed software in the organization, regardless of install location.
Services
The Services report provided a view of the owned licenses, and associated liability for discovered licensed services in the organization.
User Licenses
The User Licenses report provides a view of the owned licenses, and associated liability for user licenses in the organization.
Issues with Licenseable Inventory
When evaluating licensable inventory, there is a lot of information available, which can make it difficult to see all of the trouble spots. The Issues data views were built for that purpose: to help better spotlight the areas where there may be problems inventory that need to be addressed.
Device Liability
The Device Liability report helps to determine the following areas for Licensed Products and their specific versions.
User Liability
The User Liability report helps to determine whether or not a licensed product has a specific owner. Clicking on one of the links drills down to show the list of devices where the licensed product is installed.
Missing Expenses Data
The Missing Expenses Data report helps determine whether or not a licensed product liability is missing any associated purchase or maintenance expenses. The links will drill down to liability details.
