How to Edit a Dashboard
This lesson goes into detail about editing the features of an existing dashboard.
Navigating to Dashboard Layout from Regular Dashboard View
To navigate to the Dashboard Structure from the regular dashboard view, the user can click the icon next to the dashboard's name.
Dashboard Structure
After clicking on the icon next to the dashboard's name, a pop-up will show that provides the same options as dashboard management: Settings, Subscriptions, and Layout. The user is able to make the same modifications here that they would be able to make when Creating a Dashboard.
Right Click Context Menu for Widget
When the user is viewing the layout of the dashboard, right-clicking on a dashboard widget in the layout tab will bring up a context menu and give the user the option to View/Edit the Settings, Refresh the Data to view the most current data, Delete the Widget, or View as Table to see the data that was used in the widget.
Widget Size and Placement on a Dashboard
Steps for editing size and placement of widgets. Under the Admin > Dashboard Management > (Name of Dashboard) > Layout the user is able to resize.
Resizing a Widget
To resize a widget, drag either the right or bottom side. It does not matter how far you drag it. Dragging the right side will expand the widget horizontally.
Dragging the bottom side will expand the widget vertically. The widget will adjust to the new dimensions automatically.
Widgets are able to be resized even when multiple widgets exist. If the widget is expanded over another widget, the widget that was previously in that place will be moved.
Moving a Widget
To switch the place of a widget, drag either the top or left side of it. Take into consideration the size of the other widgets as well. In this example, the widget that was originally in the top right corner was moved to the left. However, since the widget that was on the left was going to switch places with it, both of the right widgets had to move to allow room for the larger left widget.
Layout Modifier
The user is also able to adjust the layout of the widgets by choosing the Layout Modifier in the upper right area of the layout tab. The user can click into this field and hover their mouse over the dimensions they want to apply to the layout change.
Viewing as a Table
The user is able to view the information displayed in the widget in the format of the table by right-clicking on a widget and selecting View as Table.
Dashboard Restrictions
An admin can restrict access to Dashboards based on role at Admin > Role Management. The user can choose the role they want to control access for and go to the Components tab and check (if they want to allow access) or uncheck (if they want to restrict access) Dashboards.
Linking Widgets
Widgets may be linked to one data view by checking the Widgets Linked box in the Settings section of dashboard management.
Once widgets have been created on that dashboard, the data view they are linked to can’t change unless all widgets from that dashboard are deleted.
A dashboard with linked widgets initially appears the same as a regular dashboard. If a dashboard has a preset filter applied to the linked data view, that filter will be applied to all widgets.
Filters Applied on Linked Widgets
If a filter is applied to one of the linked widgets then that filter is applied across all widgets since they are linked to the same data view.
- In this example, the user clicks the bar for UKRAINE in the Cities bar chart widget.
- This will apply the filter to the data grid widget as well.
- This filter can be undone by clicking the filter icon in the top right corner of the widget that was clicked.
If the user wants to see the data view for a linked widget, they must right click on the segment they want to view the records for and select Drill Into View.
