Introductions to Widgets
As mentioned in the Dashboard Introduction, widgets are data components that are contained in a dashboard. There are many different types of widgets the user can choose from depending on the type of relationship between the data the user wants to display. Below is an overview of each widget available. Details on how to create and configure each widget type are discussed in other articles.
Charts
A chart is a cluster of information used to show comparison between data. Pie, Doughnut, Line, Bar, Horizontal Bar and Zoom Line charts are available to the user.
Pie/Doughnut Chart
A Pie Chart and its functional cousin, the Doughnut Chart, is a circular chart divided into sections where the area of each segment is proportional to the quantity it represents. This chart is mainly used to show the relationship of each value to the whole value.
Line Chart
A line chart is used to show the pattern of the values of one field over the period of another. For example, if the user wanted to see the amount of licensable software installed over a period of time, this chart would help them recognize the overall trend.
Bar Charts
A bar charts compares each value as rectangular bars and specializes in displaying the highest and lowest values. This type of chart would be a good choice if the user wanted to review absolute levels across many different data points. A horizontal bar chart is similar to a regular bar chart in that it compares each value as rectangular bars, but the bars are presented horizontally. This type of chart is more appropriate when there are too many data points to fit horizontally without scrolling.
Zoom Line Chart
A zoom line chart is used to plot large numbers of data points all at once. The user starts with the high level view and is able to zoom into a section of the chart to view more detailed data for that section.
Data Grid
The data grid widget displays information as it appears in the data views.
Data Map
The Data Map widget is a GeoCoding component that combines the functionality of Google Maps with the IP Range to Location mapping information stored in Asset Vision. This widget allows the user to view IP ranges associated with locations on the map.
Gauge Set
Gauges in a Gauge Set are used to display single values resulting from user defined criteria on data views. The user can drill down into these numbers to display the underlying data. A gauge set can also be configured as a type of performance measurement device if configured as a RAG Gauge Set. The numbers will reflect RAG (Red, Amber, Green) status based on user defined ranges.
HTML Content
Defined HTML Content can be used to create a custom widget that can be used to enhance different components of reporting within Asset Vision.
KPI (Key Performance Indicator)
A KPI Chart is a performance indicator that compares the results of gauge values using an easily modifiable KPI formula.
The level of decimal precision may also be specified to customize the widget to the specific need.
RAG Chart
A RAG chart is a pictorial gauge that points to a section of red, yellow (amber), or green based on where the data falls in user defined limits.
