How to Restrict Custom Menu and Filter Creation

This lesson explains how to restrict users from adding, removing or modifying customizations for data views. The default settings for Asset Vision allow users to make changes for them (Me), for their role (My role), and for everyone (All).  Admins can restrict the ability to make changes by role in the Role Management > Restrictions tab.

Viewing User Restrictions

Viewing User Restrictions
  1. Navigate to Admin > Role Management > Restrictions.
  2. By default, all options for saving custom filters, menu items, and scopes are allowed.  Each checkbox in the image above corresponds to a filter or menu save option as shown in the image below.  The checkbox controls the restriction in the following manner:
    • Checked Box - Modifications to filters, menus, and scopes are allowed for the defined roles.
    • Unchecked Box - Modifications to filters, menus, and scopes are NOT allowed for the defined roles.

Note: There is not an option to save custom menu items for All.  In order to create/update menu items for everyone, a user must use System Administration > Menu Management.

Custom Filter Options example

Custom Filter and Menu Save Options

All filter, menu and scope save options are available to users by default. This means that, by default, a user is able to save a filter that can be viewed and used by others if they choose Filter for all.

The Customization Item options available are (defined). The check boxes either allow (checked) or prevent (unchecked) users from being able to modify/configure the following:

  • Filter: Saved Filters for a given data view.
  • Menu: Menu items can be tabs, sub-tabs, or tree items.
  • Scope Settings: Saved scope settings, either stock or saved by users.
  • Layout: The structure of how a data view or widget is presented.
  • Layout Subscriptions: Automated emailing of the subscribed layout.
  • Remove Related Filter: Allows or prevents a user from deleting a related filter. When unchecked, the filter is not displayed, therefore it acts as an implicit filter.
