How to Create Scopes
This lesson explains how to create Scopes for a data view.
Navigate to Data View Management
Scopes are applied in the following way:
- Navigate to Admin -> Data View Management (only available to admins).
- Select a Data View from the left-hand menu that will have Scopes applied.
- Select Edit Structure from the data view structure options.
Select the Scopes Tab and Click New
- From the pop-up, select the Scopes tab. All existing Scopes will be displayed here. If no Scopes exist, then the message No data to display will be shown.
- Click the New button to create a new Scopes Filter,
Fill Out the Scopes Settings and Save
- Enter a Name and Description. The description field becomes the "hint" if someone hovers the mouse over the Scope in the actual data view.
- Enter a Data Type. This will determine which fields the Scope can filter on in the Available Fields menu.
- Optionally, enter a Default Value for the field in the Scope.
- Check whether the Scope is required to have that field populated.
- The Available Fields menu will change to show the fields of that type available in the data view. Select the fields that will be used in the scopes filter. If a yellow folder shows up as empty it means that an item referenced by it in another table is of the selected Type, but at this time the referenced item has not been parsed and is not shown in the Available Fields display.
- When you double-click the field or select the field and use the arrow buttons, that field name will appear in the right-hand menu.
- Click Save to create the Scope filter.
Note: Another column from a related data view can be referenced by using a distinct select Scope. Distinct select lists text columns as well as reference columns so the user can choose whether the Scope will act as a regular distinct select filter that returns de-duplicated string results or as a reference to other data views.
